These black berkey elements have a 2 year warranty. The first six months is full free replacement. The elements are then prorated after that for up to two years.

When the flow rate decreases simply brush the Black Berkey® purification elements with a ScotchBrite® pad under running water, reinstall and your system is again ready to purify water. ABOUT VIRUSES- The Black Berkey element will stop the viruses known as MS2 and FR coliphage. Viruses are crazy critters that can cause us plenty of suffering. Generally, in order to have viruses in your water, you would be going out and getting that water from some pretty nasty sources. You probly wouldn't get water from nasty sources and run it through your Berkey water system unless you were desperate for water in a disaster situation. The Berkey system does not claim to viruses stop outside of the two mentioned above. The reason viruses are harder to stop than bacteria, parasites, or things like crypto is because viruses are much smaller and able to slip through some extremely dense elements. The best way to stop a virus in water is to kill it with heat or chemicals, or zap it with a UV light like the Aquastar Plus we sell, in order to kill its reproductive DNA. Chlorine will kill viruses in water. But chlorine can take up to 4 hours to kill crypto. The Berkey system stops crypto because crypto is bigger in size than viruses, but chlorine or UV light does nothing to take out sediment and chemical pollution the way a Bekery water system does. The Berkey system is good at cleaning up your city, well or rain water. In an emergency situation where you might get your water from virus contaminated sources, the Berkey system is a powerful tool in your safe water arsenal along with other tools. If you suspect viruses in your water you can use chemical treatment, heat or an ultra violet light and then use the Berkey system to rid the water of all the other nasty stuff you do not want to drink. Black Berkey purification and British Berkefeld filtration systems are an integral part of an ideal solution for treating contaminated water supplies. The accepted standard for using chlorine to kill waterborne viruses is by adding 8 drops of straight chlorine bleach (unscented) to 1 gallon of water. For good measure the recommendation is often made to use 16 drops per gallon and then let stand for about 1 hour. Much of the chlorine will vaporize. But what if you don't want to drink what is left of that chlorine? Black Berkey elements remove the chlorine from the treated water after the chlorine has completely killed any viruses present.
